The Development Assistant to the Head of School at St. Stephen's Episcopal Day School plays a crucial role in supporting the Head of School and advancing the mission of our esteemed institution. With a primary focus on achieving fundraising goals and nurturing relationships with our constituents, the Development Assistant is an integral member of the Senior Staff Team, contributing significantly to the school's administration.

In collaboration with the Head of School, the Development Assistant will actively pursue specific budgetary goals aligned with St. Stephen's Episcopal Day School's Strategic Plan. This involves the creation of a comprehensive development calendar, emphasizing cultivation, stewardship, solicitation, and fundraising for annual and capital initiatives outlined by the Board of Trustees and School Leadership.

The Development Assistant will confidently address the public and train parents on volunteer fundraising opportunities, demonstrating a deep belief in the school's mission and strategic plan. Collaboration with various teams, including marketing, business, admissions, and the School & Home Association, is essential for the success of this candidate. Moreover, the Development Assistant ensures full financial transparency.

Recognizing that St. Stephen's excellence is rooted in its strong sense of community, the Development Assistant serves as a representative within the school and beyond. Emotional intelligence is a crucial attribute, along with the ability to build meaningful relationships that motivate board members, colleagues, parents, alums, and other constituents involved in cultivating and stewarding the school's community. Importantly, this person manages relationships with the utmost confidentiality, ensuring a high level of trust and integrity.

The Development Assistant will also focus on maintaining a donor database and an event fundraising platform, requiring a tech-savvy approach. The ultimate goal of this position is to maximize the potential of giving from our constituents, contributing to the sustained success and growth of St. Stephen's Episcopal Day School.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with the Head of School to strategize and execute all fundraising initiatives.
  • Coordinate the comprehensive school fundraising calendar, ensuring strategic planning and smooth execution of various fundraising initiatives and events.
  • Run a focused 5-week annual fund campaign to achieve 100% participation from the school community.
  • Educate and empower parent volunteers who will spearhead the annual fund campaign, providing them with the necessary knowledge and tools for success.
  • Create and regularly update tracking tools to foster healthy competition among participants during the annual fund campaign, driving increased engagement and contributions.
  • Maintain the database with accurate and timely pledge collections, ensuring the integrity of financial records.
  • Present campaign updates and results to the Board of Trustees, providing insights into the progress and impact of fundraising efforts.
  • Coordinate the annual State of the School Presentation, offering complete financial transparency to our community.
  • Work closely with the School & Home Association in the planning of St. Stephen's Episcopal School's annual gala, contributing to the success of this significant fundraising event.
  • Research donor potential for capital campaign fundraising, identifying key individuals and organizations to support the school's long-term goals.
  • Oversee naming opportunities, ensuring proper recognition for donors, and maintaining a high level of transparency and accountability.
  • Maintain solid relationships with donors, fostering a sense of appreciation, engagement, and belonging.
  • Possess familiarity with Givesmart and Veracross or similar fundraising and donor event software to streamline and enhance fundraising efforts.
  • Collaborate closely with the Head of School, Communications, and Marketing Departments to strategize and execute all fundraising initiatives, ensuring a cohesive and impactful approach.
  • Work collaboratively to create compelling fundraising marketing pieces that effectively communicate the school's mission, goals, and the impact of contributions.
  • Develop creative videos and audiovisual materials highlighting the importance of fundraising efforts and engaging the school community.
  • Ensure that the messaging aligns with the overall branding and communication strategy of St. Stephen's Episcopal School, maintaining a consistent and powerful narrative across all our social media and communication channels, including text messaging and WhatsApp.
  • Establish yourself as a successful team player with initiative, enthusiasm, flexibility, and the ability to collaborate effectively with others.
  • Work evening events willingly and provide dedicated and flexible support for special events and duties as required.
  • Demonstrate strong emotional intelligence skills; manage interpersonal relationships with natural ease.

Qualifications and Desired Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Business Administration, or other related field.
  • Relevant work history demonstrating senior-level administrative experience, including development, fundraising, event planning, and volunteer management.
  • Excellent capability in developing and executing fundraising strategies, with a proven track record of reaching fundraising goals.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, able to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information effectively and confidentially.
  • Strong community focus and understanding of the importance of community engagement in fundraising initiatives.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $75,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
