Job Description

Education Director

STATUS : Permanent/Full Time/Exempt
DEPARTMENT : Education
REPORTS TO : Tribal Administrator
SALARY : $18.00 – 25.00 per hour

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and assure acceptability of grant and contract proposals necessary to fund the Education Department.
  • Work closely with all departments that support educational activities and with all other schools, groups, and agencies to ensure educational success for the children and adults.
  • Manage Education Department.
  • Establish and implement all departmental short and long term goals.
  • Assist in preparing financial budgets and reconciliations for all department funding.
  • Oversee the Education Library and Computer Lab.
  • Provide oversight for one on one and group tutoring, ensuring appropriate age level placement, ongoing student assessment, and monitoring.
  • Ensure implementation of Honor Roll and Scholarship programs.
  • Attend/participate in Public School Site Council Meetings.
  • Prepare and submit yearly and monthly reports as required.
  • Inform Administration/Council on issues concerning all school systems serving Chemehuevi.
  • Provide final Department approval for all vocational training and higher education requests.
  • Attend Chemehuevi Education Board Meetings.
  • Attend evening and weekend meetings as required.
  • Attend Tribal Council Meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in establishing and executing program goals and objectives.
  • Experience in supervision.
  • Ability to plan and implement programs.
  • Knowledge of computers, including tutorial programs and web-based learning.
Other Requirements :
  • Pass pre-employment Drug screen and background check.
  • Comply with Drug-Free and other Workplace Administrative Policies.
  • Possess a valid Driver’s License and provide DMV history upon hire.
  • Knowledge of Indian Culture preferred.
  • Ability to travel.
